Weekend Update

We had a fairly productive weekend here which entailed a day of painting 2 coats on the trim and quarter round, which will go along the baseboard and hopefully disguise the sloped floors. We also stained all 4 doors and primed and painted the door jams. They are all hung and back in place, completed, just waiting for the trim pieces. Baby steps folks! We are getting there.

Saturday night we settled down for some SNL, best of 2006 & 2007. It was hilarious and had some very funny skits! We usually aren't up this late but I managed to stay awake through the whole thing.

Now, for the nitty gritty, we have ROTTEN EGG, very foul, sulfur smelling, H2O. It's vomit inducing when you least expect it. Unfortunately, I am actually getting used to the smell which hubby says is not a good sign b/c we are going to be walking around with a "smell" and not know it. I wouldn't want that to happen. So, what's the cure? We don't know. Hubby assigned me to this task since I'm the internet queen but this is BORING stuff. Who knows the solution? I know someone out there reading this has the answer. Please share your knowledge. We know about bleach tablets but how do they work and how the hell do we operate a well? We thought our well was a dog house if that tells you anything (a picture would explain it; honestly). It's driving hubby crazy, which in turn makes me crazy. So we really should get this puzzle solved.

p.s. It used to be just the hot water and now it's the cold too. Hubby did the "smell this" today with his coke and it actually smelled like he farted in his cup and then poured a glass of coke.

  1. I would look into a whole house filtration system. Depending on how much you want to spend, you should be able to get rid of most of the smell (ie. UV and carbon filter combo). Stinky water sucks - one of my big reservations with well water.

Does your water stink all the time, or just out of faucets that don't get used as often? Sometimes it seems to happen b/c water sits and doesn't move.
As for chlorine tablets....they will more than likely get rid of your smell. We just went to the "doghouse" and opened a little tube with a cap on it and dumped them in. You can hear them hit the water in the bottom. Chlorine can eventually plug your screen down in the well hole though.

  4. Thank you anonymous for your tip regarding the "doghouse". Maybe we will attempt the tablets this week. The water stinks all the time and yes we use our faucets frequently. So I don't believe it's a result of the water sitting. Just stinky, bacteria infested water. Yeah!
